What’s the difference between club, state, national and world curling?

Club: your local curling community

League nights, lessons and bonspiels at a curling club. Beginners and experienced players can enjoy this level for a lifetime. You do not have to move on to championships.

State or region: a wider field

Teams from a state or region compete. Some events are qualifiers, often called playdowns; others are championships in their own right. Canada also has provincial and territorial competitions.

National: a championship within a country

There are different national titles: men’s, women’s, mixed doubles, juniors, seniors and club teams, among others. Eligibility and qualifying routes depend on the event.

World: countries against countries

Teams represent their countries or member associations at an international championship. There are separate world events for different formats and age categories.

It is not one automatic ladder. For example, U.S. Club Nationals uses regional playdowns, while other national events have different qualification systems. Winning a local league is not an automatic ticket to nationals, and not every national title leads to Worlds.

New professional league

Rock League Curling

Rock League is curling’s first professional league. Instead of one traditional team entering a championship, six global franchises bring together women and men to compete in several kinds of curling.

For a new fan, it is a lively way to meet top players, follow one franchise through a season, and see familiar curling presented with a faster, team-league feel.

Four regular-season stops run through February 7. The championship follows April 8–18.

How it worksSix mixed-gender franchises

Each franchise has five women and five men. Events include women’s and men’s fours, mixed doubles, mixed fours, and more.

Official event stream

Junior Slam Series

The series’ own YouTube channel carries selected junior event games. Its 2026 Tallinn Rising Stars mixed doubles event also advertised streaming. Coverage varies by tournament and sheet; this is not a promise that every Slam game is shown.

Tour event coverage on YouTube. Bygdøy Curling Club explicitly names this channel as the official streaming destination for the 2026 women’s Oslo Cup, and the channel lists those broadcasts.

The Curling Channel · World Curling

World Curling’s live and replay service for international championships. Its announced 2026–27 season coverage includes Europeans and the world junior, mixed doubles, women’s and men’s championships.

Federation’s 2026–27 coverage announcement

New to club streams? Some use fixed cameras with little or no commentary. On YouTube, look for the Live tab for broadcasts and past streams. A quiet sheet between games does not mean the link is broken.

Availability can change. These checks confirm the source and recent activity, not uninterrupted playback or a game currently live.

Four clues tell you most of the story

Look at the score, the current end, which team has hammer, and where the guards are. You do not need to understand every shot call to follow the game.

  1. Score: Who is ahead?
  2. End: How much game is left?
  3. Hammer: Who throws last?
  4. Setup: Is the house open or protected by guards?
